Eroge Review (16): G-Senjou no Maou
Here is a review of G-Senjou no Maou, made by Akabeesoft2.
Overall score: 8/10
Plot summary:
It’s winter. “Maou” appears in the middle of a snowing large city.
His wish, of course, is the collapse of human society.
The main character, Azai Kyosuke, goes to school while helping out his foster father’s business and controlling huge amounts of money.
But his peaceful days were about to end.
Kanon’s figure skating convention is threatened, while Tsubaki is ordered to move out of her long-protected home. A strange group holds hostages at school, and many rich kids are disappearing within the city. It is said that “Maou” is behind all these incidents.
That is when a beautiful girl calling herself Usami Haru appears and challenges Maou to a mind game to lure out the unidentified culprit. It turns out that she is the “hero” who fought alongside Kyouske as a child.
A reunion after ten years…
Pure-love drama with their lives at stake starts…
*Play time: About 30 hours total.
Characters:
Azai Kyosuke: Main character. Random, supposed to be smart.
Usami Haru: Weird girl, but smart and moe. Very long hair.
Miwa Tsubaki: Nice and pure girl.
Azai Kanon: Easygoing, energetic girl.
Shiratori Mizuha: Tsundere.
Tokita Yuki: Smart, sexy woman with no Hscene (T T)
Story: 6 (+3 for the end)/10
The game tried to combine drama, mind game, comedy, and tearjerking moments. I, however, do not think it worked out that well.
First, they tried to fix the boredom of the slice of life scene (a bad thing about Sharin) by adding more comedy. It may have been funny, but I found the comedy really dull, and the slice of life scenes turned out to be even more boring.
The mind games weren’t anything fancy, but the writer did a great job showing the suspense and build-up of the scene. However, there were too many convenient things happening within the game. It felt that the characters acted that way for the sake of the game, and not because that how they would’ve acted in that scene. The biggest example of this (which really annoyed me) is when Maou’s intention is revealed. The story portrays Maou as a smart character, but the method he took to execute his goal felt too short-sighted and it seemed it was done for the sake of the story. Kyosuke would also conveniently black out or lose his memory for the same reason.
With that said, the story is well-written and the writer did a great job of making each scene dramatic. If you can read the story without thinking too much and accepting things as they are, this is a great game. If you have to stop and think about few things, some plotholes may annoy you.
Now, even with all this, the Haru route ending is epic. This game is worth playing just for this scene alone.
Graphics: 9/10
The graphic is very good. The characters are well drawn, and the coloring is beautiful. The characters look cute and the guys are drawn more realistically.
Music: 8/10
I don’t know how you can go wrong when some of the music is based on classical music. These music are just beautiful, but the other BGMs are more “normal” in comparison. The vocal song…. the insert song during the final scene is just AWESOME. Together with the scene, it makes the end really epic.
System: 7/10
The system in this game is good. First of all, it has decent modes from the title: sound mode, CG mode, Hscene mode, and chapter jump.
It also has good in-game options. It has text speed, skipping options, sound volumes, voice on/off, the option to allow voice to continue even when mouse is clicked (important for me), and text colors. It has about 100 save slots, which should be more than enough for this game. The game also has the option to show BGM titles when the music changes (GIGA style).
Overall, I didn’t find anything wrong with the system.
Ero: 5/10
The ero in this game is surprisingly good for a story-oriented game. There are a few scenes for each girl, with one or two CGs for each scene. The scenes are more moe than anything, and combined with the good art, makes them pretty good.
Overall: 8/10
The writing in this game is great and it does a good job making the reader excited and want to read ahead, but there are many contradictions and convenient events throughout the game. If you can ignore this and just take the story for what it is, this is a great game. And the ending more than makes up for all the shortcomings it may have. However, this game did not beat “Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo” in my opinion.
Recommended for: People who want moe (Haru), people who want exciting mystery, people who like mystery drama.
Not recommended for: People who do not like convenient plot, people who want ero, people who want an ordinary slice of life.

I can’t believe you gave this the same ‘ero’ score that you gave Kono Aozora ni Yakusoku wo – to me, the difference between the two is insane. I think the ones in Kono Aozora are better written, better drawn (a common problem I have with Akabeisoft2 H scenes – alpha’s art is great, but I feel her HCG looks really awkward quite a lot of the time) and generally far more エロイ in every other way – I’m a big fan of Kono Aozora’s H scenes, though; I think they’re some of the best examples of ‘naive pure-love H scenes’ in eroge.
Otherwise, this review (apart from the score values) fairly closely matches my own opinion of the game. Comparing it with Sharin no Kuni is interesting, though- I actually consider the two to be on about the same level, because they’ve got their own pros and cons. G-Senjou’s more entertaining – it’s a rollercoaster ride from chapter 3 on, honestly – while Sharin no Kuni is more one of those ‘epic’ stories that keeps you thinking about it for ages after. Love them both, though, they’re my second and third favourite eroges whichever order they end up going in.

Yeah Konnyaku probably has better Hscenes for an average player. I somehow could not like the Hscene in Konnyaku that much, though.

You’re wrong. I like normal stuff. It’s just that the normal stuff on a story-oriented eroge tend to be very simple and short, which is why I give them a low score. To have a good score on ero, it has to be really good Hscenes, or be a game focused on sex. something in the 9-10 range would have to be in the level of Yoake mae yori ruriiro na or Atelier Kaguya games.

for me, Sharin’s characters were also catered for the sake of the plot. Example would be Touka’s chapter. I mean, only a real idiot wouldn’t realize sooner that Kyouko is the one who has problem and not Touka.
And most of all, the antagonist. his twisted way of thinking was specially catered for the plot’s sake. Especially when he even wanted Natsumi to commit suicide even though he himself has proof that she doesn’t need the obligation
