Eroge Survey

Sengoku Rance translation is entering its final stages and I’ve started thinking about what to translate next.
Before I go ahead and pick our next translation project, I would like to conduct a small survey. Please answer aas many of the following questions as possible if you have time. Thanks!
*Please be aware that the next project is NOT based on which game/genre gets the most votes.

First, what do you look for in eroges?

What do you like in your eroge? (You can choose up to 3 choices)

——————————————————————————————–

Before I started translating Wanko to Kurasou or Sengoku Rance, nobody has asked me to translate these games. I believe this was because the games were not popular in the English community. I still went ahead and translated these games because I believe these games are great and people just did not know about them. What do you think about me translating something you’ve never heard of?

What do you think about the previous games I translated?

Finally, disregarding hacking difficulty or licensing possibility or anything else, which games on this list would you like to see translated? (links to game descriptions are below the poll)

Which game deserves a translation? (You can pick up to 3)

rape makes me sad as well.
    NTR?
    don’t know what that means.
but anyways ever since playing sengoku rance i realized i really like these types of games so i guess i would be in the gameplay category.

I like gameplay as well. AND STORY STORY STORY. It’s all about the story for me. Also tear-jerker would be nice.

Rape is fine by me. I like it most times

If i want that i listen to Linkin Park

    I totally agree with Levio.
After I played Sengoku Rance my enthusiasm for games without much gameplay faded away.
I would like to see how good other Alice Soft games are. So I vote for Daiakuji.

I also voted for Suzukuri Dragon. It would be the first Softhouse Chara game to be translated. And one of the very few SLGs.

Please consider add Shin Koihime Musou in to your list. The gameplay are kind of like Sengoku Rance . Also, base on the description, i think the story is also good (can’t help it since i dont know Japanese). It’s also very popular in Japan. I remember I heard in somewhere that it was in top 3 when it was released.

There is also an English review make by theshino.com ,you can read it at:

    http://theshino.com/index.php/2008/09/koihime%e2%80%a0musou-%e3%80%8c-%e3%83%89%e3%82%ad%e3%83%83%e2%98%86%e4%b9%99%e5%a5%b3%e3%81%a0%e3%82%89%e3%81%91%e3%81%ae%e4%b8%89%e5%9b%bd%e5%bf%97%e6%bc%94%e7%be%a9%e3%80%8d-%e6%81%8b%e5%a7%ab-3/

For some reasons, the link looks so suspicious  . Alternatively, you can find it by typing ” theshino koihime ” without the qoute into google search bar.

Besides, in vndb.org, some peple marked that the game is being (or will be) translated by Mangagamers.
I did a few research and couldn’t find any proofs or statements make by Mangagamers that they are intent to license it. I believe it is a fake information (in my case the freking fake information gave me a new hope and also at the same time turned me into despair when i found out it was bullshit).

My 2nd recommendation is Valkyrie Complex  . Don’t know much about this game through. Information about this game can also be founded in theshino.com, too. The guy already did a review about this game.

    Here the link:

Couldn’t answer the second question as none of the answer was appropriate…

I’ve never heard of Wanko to Kurasou before, and haven’t played it.
Heard of Sengoku Rance but haven’t played it before, since I thought the language would a barrier when playing a game with heavy gameplay. Looking forward to play with the completed patch.

And gameplay is usually the best part of an eroge, right after storyline. I remember getting too addicted on playing Suzukuri Dragon… after numerous game overs trying to figure out how to play.

  14. Asceai Says:
    14

    >Suzukuri Dragon

    Boo to games that are practically impossible to get at a reasonable price nowadays ;_;

Damn, it’s not even that old, but try to find a copy of it… nearly as bad as Sayonara wo Oshiete.

  15. Orangeman Says:

I’d like to say great job with sengoku rance! Havent found a ero game that ate up so much of my time.

    The list is quite old

Agreed with someone above to put “Koi Hime Mousu” on the list.

If people really like the gameplay above all thing, why not put some game from Eushully in the list like your last game “Himegari Dungeon Meister”

Or putting a game with a decent story full of action like “Dies Irae Also sprach Zarathustra”

These 3 are my most wanted list in ENG and also the leaset game people expected to get translated as same as Rance.

But you show me that even Rance can get translated, so I will put up some hope

I noticed nekonekosoft’s Scarlett was in there and I was curious about the game ever since I listened to its awesome soundtrack.

And I’ll play whatever you choose to work on, regardless of genre since I trust your tastes. Thanks for bringing us Wanko and Rance.

    Gameplay over everything else.

I’m really tired of all the visual novel-type eroge. Walls of text with perhaps two or three “decisions” thrown in. No thank you. I really never got why they are so popular in Japan.

Before you translated Sengoku Rance I didn’t even know there were eroge that are actually…games (gasp) instead of a couple of pictures buried under mountains of dry text.

    Thank you for that

I’d be really thrilled if your next project would be another game with uhh gameplay…yeah, that would be great.

  21. Metdragoid Says:
    21

How much does this poll weight in the final opinion what you are going to translate?

Just giving my 2cents on matter, but I generally believe that whats best for translation is something what we haven’t got already, and the genres that currently are underrepresented are in my opnion hard Sci-fi, horror and Moe/sugarly sweet stories that haven’t got any drama at all. Personaly Sci-fi is my favorite genre, so one of my votes did go for Baldr Sky, as it’s definetly something that deserves to get translation in addition to having action game elements. Too bad there wasn’t anything that would have represented horror genre in that list of yours, something like Kara no Shoujo, Extravaganza or GSS would been nice, but those probably aren’t your cup of tea (atleast this is impression I have gotten) so to say and most important thing in translating things is to translate something the translator personaly likes.

Also to person who was talking about shin koihime, it’s actualy legit that mangagamer are going to translate it.

And keep up the good work, no matter what you decide to translate next, it’s good news to us.

  22. Warlock Says:
    22

Thank you for translating Sengoku Rance. It’s really great when there is interesting gameplay in eroge (and non-H galgames too).

Have you ever considered translating any of Green Green games (Green Green 1-3 and Kanenone Dynatic)? I remember you mentioning that you liked Overdrive gammes a lot and wanted to translate Kira Kira and, posibly, Edelweiss, but they were licenced then. Green Green games are much alike Edelweiss (with same artist and I think some other stuff too), but belonging to Groover it’s probably unlikely they’ll be licenced.

  23. Zabe Says:
    23

    Definitely:

    Baldr Sky
    Daiakuji or
    Suzukuri Dragon

After playing Rance, I can’t get enough of the eroge with gameplay xD

If not those i’d like Swan Song, but more than likely Ixrec will translate that after Cross†Channel.

have to admit I voted for Baldr Sky, Daiakuji and Suzukuri Dragon

they all look intresting, though I’m somewhat sad that
Seinarukana: The Spirit of Eternity Sword 2 wasn’t among the choices (I’d say the previous one as well, but someone else seems to be making headway with that /laugh)

but for all I’m sad I figure, as I’m not actually paying you anything, I should probably be happy with what I can get /laugh

  35. Mail Says:

I like eroges with gameplay myself. Some games out there are good enough to hold their own against other popular, non-ero games, but a lot of people probably lose interest because they can’t understand the story or how the gameplay elements work.

  40. Ryu Says:
    40

    I prefer gameplay-focused eroges.

Not only because its obviously more interactive than just passing text and choosing dialoge options, but mainly due the “challenge factor”.

As we could all see with Sengoku Rance (which thanks to you it has become my favorite eroge so far), the BIGGER the challenge, the GREATER the satisfaction.

If Sengoku Rance didn’t had all the warfare and conquest elements and quite elaborated game rules and mechanics both in combat and while administrating the feud, it would certainly have been ALOT less interesting and exciting to play it. Also the H-scenes would be less enjoyable because one wouldn’t have really worked to solve the challenge to get there. The challenge teases the player and dares him to surpass its difficulties if he wants to obtain the sweet fruits of victory.
These fruits of victory are very, very rewarding for the player. For example when the player conquests an area and saves (and/or rapes) some fine woman, the player obviously feels much better because doing so constitutes an achievement, which requires quite more effort than just scroll over walls of text and choose between cheesy lines and common sense questions (ej: “OH NOES, a woman is asking me a question, WHAT SHOULD I DO????” – Answer: Just say nice things to her, that will make her get in your pants the 98% of times whoopthefuckindo”).

The visual-novel focused eroges tend to keep the level of interaction of the player in a passive level. Why passive, you might wonder? Because the player its just sitting there reading and waiting for the story to solve itself while choosing minimal common sense questions which separates in paths, and nothing much else.
However, in gameplay-focused games, the player has to be more agressive if he wants to get it on with the women on the game.

In a visual novel with no gameplay focus, the worst thing that could happen to you would be to choose one wrong answer… then when that happens the only thing the player needs to do to surpass that obstacle is to load the last savestate, hold CTRL until he reaches that last question and choose another answer so the story resolves magically for him, with no substantial challenge involved. The game is just giving you the girls in a silver plate. In the other hand, on gameplay-focused eroges, it is the player who has to WIN and conquest the challenges to reach the girls.

For all these reasons, i have voted Baldr Sky , Daiakuji and Suzukuri Dragon.

That said, Rance is the king of badass and awesome.

  41. appztetra Says:
    41

You can Work on Baldr Sky i think everyone likes it…

  42. Multi Says:
    42

Well, there’s a reason some eroge are called Visual NOVELS. Take Planetarian for instance, I forgot what they called it specifically, but they refered to it as something else since it had no choices at all. There’s also stuff like Umineko, yet you can still participate as a reader by trying to solve the mystery.

  43. TakaJun Says:

    >>please do/don’t do rape/netorare
I won’t be doing netorare or rape (or games which lean heavily on those themes anyway) because I hate it.

    >>will you translate xxx?
There’s a very low chance that I may pick a game not on the list, but the games on the list are pretty much all I’m considering. The games people mention are not on the list either because I haven’t played it or that I don’t like it enough to translate it.

    >>santa
God damn it. Thanks for sharing that with the whole world… j/k
    Yes, that’s mine, but I haven’t played Scarlett… I bought it for the booklet and never really took the time to play the game ^^;

    >to all people saying Rance got them into gameplay
Thanks, guys! That was the biggest reason I had when I started translating Sengoku Rance. I wanted people to know that there are games like Rance out there.
I also wanted other people to waste as much of precious time on the game as I did.

    >about the survey
All the games work as standalone, except for Baldr Sky (I won’t actually consider translating this until I play Dive 2).
As for the weight of the survey, I’m torn between translating popular game, or translating a game nobody voted on (meaning nobody knows how good it is)
The genre question is so ideally, I can pick a game with genres fitting most people’s preferences.
I do want to translate a new genre for english eroge players like I did with Rance, but I really don’t see a new genre anymore…

Just ask away any questions you may have and I’ll answer them to the best of my ability

What about games by Black Cyc?
They have a very big following on both the Japanese and English side of the fan base, plus their games contain many elements so they appeal to a couple of different audiences. Tools for their games have already been created.

Perhaps you could try a type of game the English speaking world doesn’t really have? ( in terms of eroge titles ).
Such as Yaoi,Yuri or otome games.

As far as I know theirs no otome games translated.
Yuri, theirs a couple of projects and an official title being released.
Yaoi, theirs 2 official titles released and translation projects for the Nitro+Chiral games.

I personally am not a fan of Yuri games, but I can give some good examples for Otome games and as for Yaoi games, I’ll see if your interested in them before listing a few.

    Otome:
    http://www.sugar-beans.com
Sugar Beans have 3 games and 1 fandisk out, their titles are some of my favorites.
They have a small gameplay element, in that each day you can choose where to go and you may find different characters in each location.

    http://www.tiaramode.com/index2.html
Unique in the fact that they release each game in 2 parts. The happy elements are in the main game while dark elements are in the expansion disc.
What I am referring to is that the main game is all romance and happy. While the expansion disc adds in dark elements such as rape. So if you don’t want dark elements, you just don’t install the expansion pack.
I also like the fact that they have a similar game-play element to Sugar Beans. You can choose where to go and you will meet different characters their.
Next, something I really liked in their title ‘Brothers’ was the idea of ‘Brotherly love’ and ‘Romance love’. Pretty much different choices would raise different types of love, which led to different endings. Romance endings involved romance with the particular character, while the brotherly endings, normally involve you helping them with a problem.

Some new stff would be nice. Bullet Butler, Daiakuji and Suzukuri Dragon ( I really enjoy fantasy novels) would be my choices, rape is fine as well (since it was mentioned before), heck, SR is full of it and it’s damn fun :)

I never heard of WtK, but I had even played Sengoku Rance directly after it was released using AGTH. I knew about it even though I’m not much into the English nor Japanese VN scene at all. I just saw a description of it on *cough* Hong-Fire and thought “You NEED to play this”. And it was as good as it looked too.

Don’t make it a requirement that a game should be popular with the English community. Most people there don’t have enough experience to be even able to tell which games are worth a shit. (I don’t claim I do either). I know you played so many that you can decide best for yourself which games are worth being translated.

Also, SciFi themes FTW. There is enough high school drama stuff being translated already.

Rance rape is kinda different in that, I disliked the rape scenes that were set with more ominous music and were meant to show the girls in actual pain or mind breaking, but when Rance does the raping, it’s weird how it’s the same thing, but that peppy music chances the whole thing into something comical rather than horrible or erotic. I guess because it’s just so ridiculous in how he goes about it.

  60. ManaYagami Says:
    60

Before playing Sengoku Rance, I already knew about this kind of games and had read about the Rance series a couple of years ago, but I only had the opportunity to put my hands on it after you guys released the first patches, since I gave up on trying to discover what the hell I’m doing on several games as complex as this while they are in Japanese. And it really surprised me that it was such a fun game that reminded me of the Gundam: Giren no Yabou series of strategic games, so I voted in factors such as gameplay and games like Baldr Sky, Daiakuji and Suzukuri Dragon, since they seemed like the ones that will put up a fight before we get near any decent ending.

Regarding the other titles, they seemed quite interesting and I enjoy a good VN when I’m in the mood for it and, so it doesn’t matter for me if TakaJun starts by translating one of those that I voted on or any other that he finds to be a good choice for a future project.

  61. Zabe Says:
    61

That’s because Rance doesn’t rape the ladies because he likes everything rape entails (intercourse excluded), he’s just a really horney guy that likes sex, he treats the girls right after the initial rape… kinda, but they all fall for him in the end so rather than sex slaves there are actual mutual feelings in the end. And all the girls with routes there first was consensual… and now i’m just gonna stop talking about this b/c i’m almost saying ‘rape’ is fine under certain circumstances when it isn’t, except when it comes to Rance :end: xD

  66. Multi Says:
    66

    @Zabe
Not all the girls has first consensual sex. Might I remind you “oops! It ‘accidentally slipped in!’” doesn’t count as consensual :P

It’s just a common hentai fantasy that a rapist is so good at sex that the rapee comes to enjoy it and falls in love. It’s still dumb and rape. I think it’s still just the fact that the game plays this goofy cheery music everytime he rapes a girl.

Daiakuji y Suzukuri Dragon, both have great addicting gameplay. Alicesoft and Softhouse Chara are two of my favorites Hgames companies.

I would love to see Nangoku Dominion traslated. Desert Island survival with H, pretty awesome if you ask me. :P

    My votes:

Slice of Life + Drama + Moe
    Knew about them
    Haru no Ashioto

I always want my eroge to be slice-of-life and not one with hybrid gameplay elements. Gameplay in eroge will never be as good as a game with dedicated gameplay elements, and it just feels gimmicky. I sit down and play eroge to relax.

And of course, I chose Haru no Ashioto because I’m a minori fanboy and it’s their second-highest rated game next to ef – the latter tale. It’s more moe, too, and the branches (routes) for each girl are fairly dedicated. It’s not a chore to go back and replay the trunk (main route) over and over again in order to get all the endings. Of course, if you want to do that, I could give you all of No Name Losers’ tools, ha ha!

In any case, good luck with whatever choose you do. I liked how you simply don’t want to translate the most popular title and put some good thoughts in your post.

Agreed. It’s completely beyond me why so many people in this thread see gameplay as the most essential part of an eroge… If you want gameplay over everything else, why are you playing eroge in the first place?

  73. dork at large Says:

I’ve been in video game fandom for a long time, and most of what has influenced and impressed me over the years have been titles with solid gameplay. I grew up on RPGs and strategy games. So that’s why I voted for Suzukuri Dragon and Daiakuji. They might make for a neat change from visual novels and ADV games.

I grew to like cute, romantic VNs over the years. So it was tough deciding which one I wanted to vote for. My third vote went to Haru no Ashioto. The demo was translated years ago, but since then, there’s been nothing. The story seemed fairly simple: emerge from depression, get a harem… but it wasn’t bad. I wouldn’t mind reading more.

That said, I was a bit let down when I noticed your “what should I translate” list did not include any dating simulations with complex, schedule-driven gameplay. Those would include the Tokimeki Memorial titles and Otometeki Love Revo, both of which have FAQs in English. The former existed on Windows 95 a long time ago, and the latter is available for modern Windows. (The similar games in English right now are True Love 95, and the OEL game Summer Session.)

Unfortunately for Anon, who was hoping for more content like Policenauts or Snatcher, there aren’t many Japanese games which resemble graphic adventure games. Go to this W’pedia article — http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adventure_game — and scroll down to “Japanese adventure games (1983-present)”.

Like Swiftnissity, I would like to see more otome games in English. Much of what influenced me as an anime/manga fan was the first major translations of 90s shoujo titles (back when it was tough to find anything translated other than sci-fi or porn). There was an effort to fan translate Karin Entertainment’s Windows game Princess Nightmare, but it seems to be stalled. More recently, some people on the My Neoromance forum are trying to translate The Exorcism of Maria. I don’t know if their efforts will get anywhere… but I’m hopeful.

Have you even played Sengoku Rance? It’s gameplay is on par if not better than some strategy games out there, and it has all the quirks and perks of a fantasy eroge. It’s freakin win ;p

  75. Anonymous Says:
    75

More Rance games or games like Rance please. Thanks for Sengoku Rance btw. One of the best strategy rpgs I have ever played. It is kind of sad that mainstream developers nowadays are unable to out-do an eroge in gameplay and fun factor.

  76. Alimunium Says:
    76

Sengoku Rance was definitely one of the best surprises I’ve had. I can’t say it was the gameplay or the art or the ero that really made it appealing for me, it was the character of Rance.

For your future translation, I would love to have another game with such a protagonist. But whatever your choice, I’ve always had fun playing any of the games you translated – so I’m sure your future translations will be a hit as well.

  77. Tiber Says:
    77

The games on the list look interesting but may I make a suggestion? A game that has great gameplay(If it was in english and I knew what I was doing) and an interesting storyline(…) would be Yumina The Ethereal.

Being a little more serious the game looks amazing and I would be very happy if you gave it some thought.

Sorry for double posting but I found a gameplay video that shows the slightly odd battle system.

    80

flamesoul32: I (and a few other people) have already tried recommending Yumina to TakaJun, but the problem is he hasn’t played the game. Send him the game and maybe we’ll get it translated one day.

I’d do it myself if I wasn’t a poor jobless college student. Yumina excels at comedy and having some of the most awesome battle system concepts. I also nearly came during the first Oracle scene (and several others that I won’t mention due to spoilers)… I only picked up the game because it was the successor of Sei Narukana and Eien no Aselia, but it really exceeded my expectations.

  81. Akuji Says:
    81

Daiakuji… hands down. For those of you who are looking for a Rance type character and fun gameplay… you’re looking at Daiakuji. … Or Rance VI… but seeing as how that’s not on the list…

I can’t even begin to say how thrilled I am to see Daiakuji as a possible candidate. I’ve been hoping to see that game get translated for YEARS.

    Here’s to more Alicesoft

    >Have you even played Sengoku Rance?

No, I haven’t, because the game looks pretty stupid to me. I’m sure it’s gameplay is wonderful, but still, if it’s gameplay you’re looking for… why eroge?

I’ve played Baldr Sky though. It’s probably my favorite eroge right now, and it has very nice gameplay. However, it would probably be my favorite eroge even if the gameplay was replaced by scripted action sequences (or the like), and on the other hand, even with this gameplay, the game would’ve been shit if the story and character’s weren’t so awesome.

  83. Archerwannabe Says:
    83

And what if the said game would be better than the non-eroge ones. At least if you ask me, very well might be the best strategy game I have ever played.
Not to mention, who says it´s just gameplay? Sure, gameplay is definately one of its strong points, but definately not the only one.

Thanks for translating Sengoku Rance! Personally, I didn´t expect nearly as much I got with it.
Voted only Daiakuji and Rakuen myself, but really, happy with pretty much anything from that list. Daiakuji because I´d like to try out more alice soft games and Rakuen since idea seems interesting.

The What game deserves a translation? list is so miserable with most of them it’s almost scary..

So many good games out there, but from that could only rec Daiakuji and Swan Song.

But Daiakuji’s just as easy to play without a translation as Sengoku is..

Anyways, just glancing through, seeing why Sengoku Rance is being commented on by morons in eroge forums lately..

  85. Zabe Says:
    85

Why you ask? Because if it works having the best of both worlds it’s a superior experience to just one or the other. It’s not like I don’t play normal games; i do and more so than eroge/vn. When I play eroge/vn it’s for the story, but if excellent gameplay is also there it becomes just like my favourite game genre RPGs. VNs excel in story (yes there are bad ones, just like normal games or with anything) addition of good gameplay can make it better than normal games. It may not be necessary, but if it’s there why not? It also lasts longer than a straight VN.

And if you don’t try things “because the game looks pretty stupid” you’re gonna miss out, but that’s you’re choice. Hope that explains why some of us like gameplay in eroge/vns

  86. eyeless Says:
    86

Since everyone here want eroge with gameplay – how about Alicesoft’s Galzoo Island? It is a funny comedy and good RPG. And unlike other Alicesoft games, it has no rape (almost  )

  87. Arcenciel Says:
    87

    Definitely Suzukuri Dragon.
While the art isn’t nearly as good as Sengoku Rance, the game itself is hilarious and has highly addictive gameplay.

More people need to know about the epicness of softhouse chara.

  88. Arcenciel Says:
    88

    >84

Just because you don’t recognise them doesn’t mean they suck. The world doesn’t begin and end with you. Your idea of good games probably involve only the games that have already made it into animation anyway.

Personally, I recognise and have played about half the list, and can vouch that they’re generally Grade A material(my tastes apparently aren’t the same as TakaJun)

  89. ManaYagami Says:
    89

@73: You have a point about the lack of translated otome games and I’m also a big fan of shoujo, so I would like to see if that genre is also as good or even better story and character wise than the manga counterpart.

  90. AngryPanda Says:
    90

I’m fine with whatever Taka picks, since hes yet to translate a bad game and i honestly haven’t been on the scene long enough to know whats good and whats not, although i found i like game play a lot more just because then it has a different level of replay value. Although i’m not one to ever deny a good straight story. As for genre prefer something comedic with serious jabs every now and then, but choose whatever you think you’ll have the most fun with since you always pick good things

Just wondering, why aren’t you interessed in translating Baldr Sky before dive2 comes? Is it because story isn’t finished and you can’t be sure it’s going to be as good as dive1? or for some other reasons? IMHO it would be good if you could translate dive1 now as considering your speed you would probably be around finishing TLing it when dive2 comes and could start it soon afterwards. Well, I’ll shut my mouth now as a baldr fan.

Darn, wish I read Takajun’s review and high praise for Swan Song before voting, now I wish I had voted for that one too. >.<

They’re the ones with best gameplay.

  96. Makenshi Says:
    96

To be honest, I was not impressed with Eushully games after all that hype; there are many, many games with better gameplay and a decent storyline once we move beyond the scope of eroge. Hopefully Sengoku Rance will prove that Alicesoft actually provides more.

I voted Baldr Sky, Swan Song, and Suzukuri Dragon, although now I wished I had voted for Ayakashibito instead of the last one….

    >>What about xxx game?
Like I said, if a game is not on the list, it’s either because I haven’t played it or that I don’t like it enough to translate it.

    >>The games on the list sucks!
Sorry… It probably just means that your taste is different from mine.

    >>Any consideration for otome games?
Well, I haven’t played any games from that genre (for obvious reasons)… so I don’t know if I’m up for translating something I haven’t played.

    >>Why won’t you consider Baldr Sky before Dive 2 comes out?
Because I don’t know if the whole story is really good or not before reading everything. It could be the case that Dive 2 flops. In this case, it’ll kill my motivation to keep translating Dive 1. And if I translate Dive1 and not Dive2, I’m sure it would piss a lot of people off.

    >>Horror genre?
I think Saya no Uta is a good game from that genre. I really can’t think of any other good horror games, partly because there really aren’t many horror eroges, period. Eden (not by minori) may fall under this catergory, but it’s not finished. One old free game, 精神破壊, also comes to mind as horror, but no way I’ll translate this game.

    >>Are there visual novels in a similar style to Policenauts
YU-NO and Snatcher come to mind.

    >>Will you give the results of the poll?
Yes, I will give the results of the poll in the future. Haven’t decided when. It’ll probably be when I have a good idea of what the next project will be. Right now, I’m busy trying to finish Sengoku Rance translation.

  102. SnowPatrol Says:
    102

Voted Baldr Sky, Daiakuji, and Tapestry.

Just off your reviews, I’m sure whatever you guys decide to do next will definitely be an awesome choice. I’m curious though (like a few others here), why you have Daiakuji instead of DaiBanchou? Anyhow, good luck with the final stretch of Sengoku Rance!

  103. FFFF Says:
    103

Now stop the cocktease and please decide on translating BALDR SKY alrady. We have never had any mecha involving games for the western audience so that would be something new and refreshing and the game’s quality would be top-tier anyway, shaking the foundations of the english translated library of games into it’s core.

Takajun, THANK YOU. I’ve enjoyed all of your translated works, and they’ve all been excellent choices.

I would definitely like to see another project with actual gameplay. So Daiakuji is my first choice. Do you ever see yourself translating another Rance game in the future? I’ve been playing through Rance 6 lately, and it’s excellent, even with the mile thick language barrier. If you haven’t tried it, I suggest you do.

Once again, I appreciate all of your hard work and look forward to whatever game you decide to work on next. You’re my hero. Thank you so much.

  105. Asceai Says:
    105

    >>103

True, there’s never been any translated mecha eroge (there _will_ be – JAST is working on Demonbane at the moment) but my main point is that there doesn’t have to be. ‘Mecha eroge’ is not a common genre, unlike e.g. ‘mecha anime’ – while there’s never been any translated mecha eroge, there’s also never been any translated swimsuit eroge, impregnation eroge, tentacle rape eroge, bushido eroge, hypnotism eroge, economics eroge, 1920s eroge etc. and most of those genres have at least as many titles as the mecha eroge genre does!

  106. Multi Says:
    106

    >> Asceai

wrong. That Dark Translations guy has done some of those weird nukige with the rape, depravity, tentacle demon stuff. Unless you mean official licensed, cosplay academy is kinda close to swimsuit eroge, and i think one of those other bgrade nukige that peachprincess carries has hypnotism in it too. I know that there’s watersports in water closet or whatever someone told me as well. There have also been yaoi games translated and yuri as well. None of those really interest me though.

TakaJun, how about some more of dat imouto? :V

  107. anon Says:
    107

My suggestion: take a break from translating after Rance and clear your review backlog

  108. Mephi-Dross Says:
    108

Hi, first of all thank you for all the games Taka. :) FSN and Tsukihime were great as well, it seems you have an ability to pick good games. Sadly, I can’t decide on any of the games named in the survey, but agree with the comments who favor Shin Koihime Musou. I know it’s a big game, but I think it’s definetly worth it. I could play it in jap too, but I fear my jap is still not good enough to understand the more complicated things, so I would be grateful if you consider it an option.

  109. Mugi Says:
    109

Don’t waste your time with Shin Koihime Musou thank you, it’s been picked up by Mangagamer already, why bother start translate a game you already know will be released in english.

  110. Mugi Says:

    >10 about manga gamer and ‘proof’ contact them, they anounced the license of the title at an convention an month ago, they anounced many titles back then eg the now released Shuffle and soon to be released Higurashi was 2 of them.

  111. Parame Says:
    111

If it’s already being translated no need to do it.
I would rather have game with good gameplays like Sengoku rance translated.
Those are less likely to be done, because they often ask for more skills and time.
    And it’s really a shame.

  112. Anonymous Says:
    112

    >>111

No, the main reason why a lot of people prefer story-oriented eroges to gameplay eroges is not that the latter “ask for more skills and time”.

narcissu 2 (or 3 is even better) pls

  114. Metdragoid Says:
    114

ok, thanks for the answers taka. saya was good, but I don’t consider it as horror, it’s more like supernatural morbid love story than horror to me, but then again I have a bit different ways of classifying genres sometimes.

about baldr, agree with the statement that if you translate dive1 and not dive2, the shitstorm will be rather large, but there still would be people who would appreciate it and maybe someone else that will pick it up, considering how much fans it seems to have gathered. and to be honest, I don’t think dive2 will flop, most that happens is that they mess up the ending, but that’s just my opinion. and I think I stop here now.

But no matter what you choose to translate, be it popular or unpopular, as long as it’s good, everything is going to be fine. theres nothing better than getting more translated eroges to english speaking fans.

No, the main reason why a lot of people prefer story-oriented eroges to gameplay eroges is not that the latter “ask for more skills and time”.

    Huh…
    You didn’t understand what I said…
I said that gameplay VN are less likely to be done because they ask for more skill and time to be done. Thus, are harder to translate into english.
And this is why I am hoping for more of those gameplay VNs, because there are way more standard VN and Eroge out there than games like SR.
And I do not think “normal” Eroges are more “story oriented” than gameplay Eroge/VN, like all game it depends on the game itself.

    Some thoughts on the list::

Suzukuri Dragon: I’ve heard good things about it and it looks like a good choice if you ‘re going for another game centered around gameplay but l think it would be better to go for something different for the next project after rance.
Baldr Sky:Same as above but as you said it’s better to wait and see how the sequel ends up.
Ayakashibito:That would be my recommendation.Probably a game that will be enjoyed by most people.Heavy on action but has some comedy and drama, good characters and plot, all routes are good, generally an all around high quality game.in most aspects.
Bullet Battlers:Not as good as ayakashibito+it was on a poll on peachprincess forum so if by any chance a game by propeller will be licenced it will probably be this…
Tapestry -you will meet yourself-: Interesting setting and the “feel good” mood that l get feels refreshing.
Swan song: Looks like a good choice if you want to go heavy on drama.
Parfait -chocolat second brew Re-order- :Seems cliche on first sight but it’s considered really good so l am kind of curious about it.
