Sengoku Rance update patch

Here is an update patch which fixes the numbers showing up as letters in the English locale and also fixes numerous typos/grammar errors that have been reported.
However, please be aware that the game is meant to be played in Japanese locale or using applocale, and there are places where Japanese font is used in-game which appear as jumble in English locale.

Also, for people having problems starting free-for-all mode. Please keep restarting until the game does not freeze. There’s no way to fix this problem except to untranslate all country names, commander names, and options.

To patch the game, just overwrite the rance7.ain in your Sengoku Rance folder with the one below.
Please note that this is only an update patch to ver 1.0, so please patch the game using ver 1.0 first before using this patch.

*Please do not distribute the patch with an illegal copy of the game.

If anyone is really annoyed at the occasional freezing in FFA mode and does not care about more things being untranslated, here is a patch that has names and most of the commands untranslated, while keeping the scripts in English. Just overwrite the rance7.ain in your Sengoku Rance folder with the one in the zip file.

    Thanks for the update.

Is there any way to fix the way the fourth line of text always gets cut out of the text-box?

  5. Kanao Says:

After checking the main post again I see that ‘overflowing text’ is obviously a known issue. So there’s no way to shrink the font size / find a smaller compatible font?

    Quick Question.
When fighting the Hojo, there’s a unique general called Masako. Is he/she capturable?

  10. TakaJun Says:
    10

No, there’s no way to fix the overflowing text bug. The only way would be to go through each text and manually change each of the lines to be shorter.

    >>Guy
Masako is captured after you conquer Houjou if Souun is dead

Ah, I see. I was holding out on conquering the Hojo just to see if I could capture Masako. Does anyone know Masako’s stats off the top of their head?

No, we just never tried. I figured that I wanted to take a break from gameplay, so I chose Majikoi over Suzukuri Dragon.

But the commander names are still all english.

No, we just never tried. I figured that I wanted to take a break from gameplay, so I chose Majikoi over Suzukuri Dragon

So Majikoi is just a simple read and click visual novel? :s
No particularities? Please tell me it’s not just that :( .

  25. Chass Says:
    25

^ It is just that, welcome to the world of VN….

  26. Parame Says:
    26

Well I’m quite used to it actually :p.
It’s just that, R&C only VN can be done by just about any VN translation team so I always thought that yandere would challenge VNs that only a few select team would have the capacities to do… Like those with gameplays for exemple.
Well I don’t know much about Majikoi so I am of course still looking forward to it ^^.

  27. Chass Says:
    27

^where did you get that idea? 2/3 of yandere’s project have been pure VNs…Sengoku Rance was the first “game” VN yandere tled….

ofc, i’m not sayin TakaJun doesn’t have experience with “game” VN since he worked on some in Mirrormoon

  28. Parame Says:
    28

Well I guess it’s probably because I discovered Yandere just around the time they first anounced working on Sengoku Rance. So well, I guess that’s where this feeling I had came from.
And also because, If you look at the VNs translated, most are R&C. While those with gameplay are a lot scarser.
Just take for exemple the VN being translated right now, there are more than 30/40 R&C being worked on, and those are only the ones I know of (I have this huge folder of bookmarks for VNs in translation :p) there are probably much much more. And out of all of those, I only know 2 having gameplay: Little buster and Eien no Aselia… So well. I guess I hoped for another one with gameplay.

  29. Chass Says:
    29

lol, that’s because VNs that have gameplay in the first place is much scarcer than that of the traditional VNs….VNs are visual novels after all, so the genre is mainly novels :) The ones with gameplay are like a small subsection of it

BTW, Little Busters has no gameplay as far as I know, none of Key’s titles do…

If you’re looking for VNs with gameplay that are translated, here’s all that I know:
    Utawarerumono
    Tears to Tiara
    Sengoku Rance

Ones with gameplay that are currently being translated:
Eien no Aselia – Kono Daichi no Hate De
    Symphonic Rain

  30. Parame Says:
    30

Yup already played Utawa, tears to Tiara, and Sengoku Rance. Also played Kingdom and Castle fantasia 2 with gameplays.
I’m following Eien no Aselia closely as well ^^.

Little buster do have gameplay though. There are fights between characters, although you have no control on them beside what you did before the fights. There are also many mini-games in the game.
Like baseball matches, and other that always have some kind of incidence on the story line.
Like one character has to reach the classroom quickly, you have to propulse her to the 2nd story windows. So she jumps on two of your friends arm and they propulse her. But to see wether it succeeds or fail there is an action bar to decide the power of the throw, the indicator moves quickly from top to botom, and you have to aim when the indicator is between good lvl of power for the throw to succeed. If you fail, well you fail and the story takes another route. (sorry for the crappy description I’m not that good at english :p).

Well this is not as much gameplay as Sengoku Rance. But it always help to stay focused on the storyline, rather than reading text for 40 hours :) .

That said thanks for pointing out Symphonic Rain. Didn’t know this one !

  31. Chass Says:
    31

orly, well, i’m still waitin on a full patch for LB, but that sounds kinda interesting 0.o

well, indeed it does, but usually, ones that have gameplay, especially major gameplay, lacks depth in story…i’m not saying they have a bad story, just an undeveloped one

  35. TakaJun Says:
    35

RiverX: I have no idea what the problem is there. Have you tried running it in Japanese locale / Uninstall and installing the game again?
If that doesn’t solve it, the only thing I can suggest you is to come to our IRC channel, ask, and hope someone on there can solve your problem.

  39. Sorm Says:
    39

Hmm… I pasted the translation in almost every folder but i still have letter representing number… WHERE exactly do i trow this patch? simply pasting in sengoku rance folder didn’t cut it…

  40. TakaJun Says:
    40

    >>kidlat020
The difficulty in the first playthrough is no stars

    >>Sorm
Put the Rance.ain file into the folder where the original is in.
If it doesn’t work for some reason, just run the game in Japanese locale (or use applocale) so the letters show up as numbers.

  41. kidlat020 Says:
    41

@takajun: WTH!? no stars? And I was having a really hard time all this time. Well after following a walkthrough I realized what my problem was: I was playing it too fast that the demon army appeared at turn 35 for me.
